As I Watch The Academy Awards..

I’m currently watching E! Live at the Red Carpet, and you know what?  If I could make one Oscar wish.. one silly little wish to come true.. I wish Titanic could come back and win another Academy Award.

Don’t judge me.

You can’t help what your heart desires, and mine desires Titanic.  Maybe it’s only me, or only my generation, or only ladies, but man oh man – goosebumps every time… AND I cannot wait to see Titanic in 3D April 4th!  I will legit fly solo if I have to.

That is my Academy Awards blog :) I’m such a sap.

holy switch, batman!

Wow!

So I really did have a bad case of show addiction.   I haven’t updated since I got hooked on Switched at Birth!  And now I am ALL caught up with the show and watching it as they come on TV.  And man, oh man.  This show does not disappoint.  I’ve tried to cringe and wait for the bad, weak moments or episodes… nothing!  So far so good, to say the least.

Other than being glued to netflix and my computer, not a whole lot else has been going on. School is for sure keeping me busy, and although I had to chance to go back up to Chicagoland for a weekend not much wedding planning got accomplished.  A lot of ideas are floating, but without money.. we really can’t move forward with, well, anything.

I don’t know.  It’s nice to look at magazines and google pictures, but it only does so much for me for so long.  Now I’m to the point of exhaustion where, I don’t know.. I’ve lost the drive and enthusiasm and hyperactivity.

I will keep you updated if I make any progress at all!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed… trust me.

switched at birth vent sesh.

this show has me HOOKED!!

As of two days ago, I am addicted to Switched at Birth!  Please, please give this show a chance!!  The first ten episodes are on Netflix.. that may not seem like much, but maaaan oh man!!

Yeah, it’s got its corny parts – hello, ABC Family should be a heads up.  But overall, the messages and hot topics are just so… I don’t even know how to describe it!  If you could watch this being an interpretation major with such a passion for ASL, then you might understand.. watching it just looking for a show not knowing what’s common sense, or politically correct or what’s too far and what’s time filler.

Just listen:  this show is excellent.  It touches the points I haven’t seen considered before in a show.  This excites me.  I love this show.

Please, three or four readers, give this show a chance.

chapter notes and mcdonalds

What’s up Spring Semester?!  Totally didn’t think I’d be stuffing my face with fast and easy fast food while making notes for class for five hours.. for one class… oh wait, it is college, right?  Silly me.  I take it back.

Sometimes, people ask me if I regret not going away to school.
To this I reply with a “hell no”.
I reminisce on the events since my high school graduation, well, okay just really one:  I met my fiancé in August after I graduated; the time when I would’ve been packing up and shipping off to wherever I chose to go “study”.. If I had applied to schools other than two I could commute to, I don’t know what my life would be now.. but I never wanted to go away to school.  It was never my desire.  Weird, huh?  And to look back and still know “hey, I didn’t want to go away anyways” and “hey, you would’ve never met your amazing soul-mate”.. easily answered question.

I heard we’re supposed to be getting some sketchy weather tomorrow ’round these parts.  I’m not happy with this.  If it’s a bad outlook, I will leave class early, drive the 30 miles home and get to work safely where I can watch the madness out the window, and then watch the snow plows clear that crap up before I drive home at night.  Yeah..

The Engagement Story

Okay, okay.  Enough!  I’ll tell the story already!

So, my fiancé had planned with his mother to get tickets from her boss for his season seats at the United Center for a blackhawks game.  I came home one day while he was on the phone with her picking a day and a game, so since I “walked in”, he handed the phone to me, and because I was in school full-time, his mother asked me what day might work best.. so I picked Friday, December 2, 2011.  It was a night game, and with the drive, we could stay the weekend back home up north, and it just seemed right.  Plus, the hawks were playing the Islanders – easy win.

So, game day came.  I left school early and we headed north.
Our seats at the game were amazing.  Amazing can’t even begin to describe it.  Let me just say, my fiancé’s mom’s bosses had money, and they had the BMO Harris Club seats (it’s a private club where we get a free buffet, free open bar, our own personal waitress.  totally legit).  It was a once in a lifetime experience for sure.

pictures can never do it justice. this was from our seats.

Before the game started, we had at the buffet!  Chicken marsala, salads, pastas.. such a weird, classy buffet.  The club even had a Wii.. allow me to repeat:  A 46″ TV with a Wii that a father and son were playing on.. in the club.. It was so strange to me.

The game began.
I love the Chicago Blackhawks.  I love all Chicago teams.  I love my city.
The game was amazing; the national anthem was awesome, screaming at bogus calls, watching some talented boys kick some ass.

First intermission came and went.  The lights dimmed for the second period.. about two minutes in, our waitress came to our seats with a large vase with three flowers.  We were seated my fiancé, me, his mother, and his step father.
Waitress:  ”Hey guys.. I was told to deliver these here….?”
Fiance:  ”What?  That’s weird..”
Me:  (thinking)  ”This club is awesome!  They give you flowers!!”
Waitress:  “Yeah.. I’m not sure.. I was just told to bring these here.”
Fiance:  ”That’s weird… Look, they have writing on them..”  He picked them out one by one.  ”This one says Maci.”  He hands me the flower.  ”Huh.  ’Will you’.”
Me:  ”Uh.. what?!  Shut up!”
Fiance:  ”Marry me.” Hands me the third and final rose.  ”Maci…”  He gets down on one knee and pulls a ring from his pocket.  ”Will you marry me?”

Of course I said yes.  And of course I was beyond shocked.

After settling and calming and letting what just happen sink in, my fiancé and his mom vented to me, saying the waitress was supposed to wait until the second intermission so the arena lights would be on, but she came during the second period when the lights were off… blah blah blah.  It didn’t go according to plan, but my god, they got me good.

There are so many details I could go into, but I won’t, because they’re important to me, and they might not be important to you.

But that’s my engagement story!

My fiancé even surprised me even more the next day with a surprise engagement party!
It was the first time our parents were in the same room together, the first time they met.. my closest friends were there, his grandparents.. siblings.. it was amazing.  I was floored.  He made me so proud.

Needless to say, I am happy beyond words.
After just over five years, I can finally say I’m never leaving this boy’s side.  I knew there was something special about him from the first time we sat side by side.  We never gave up on each other, and even the little bickering, the little fights can’t take away our spark and our desire for one another.  Sorry ’bout it.

69th Annual Golden Globes

I figured I’d change it up and try something new.
I’ve decided to blog while watching the Golden Globes, and kind-of put my little opinion to some wins.  By the way, I adore Ricky Gervais.

First presenter: Johnny Depp.
I like your accent, Johnny.  You were born where again?
Nevermind.  Nevermind.
Gerard Butler and Mila Kunis.  Nice!  I’m a little more attracted to Mila, though.. is that weird?
Christopher Plummer: Best Supporting Actor (for a movie I never heard of).
I think I’m going to be out of the loop for this award show.  I haven’t really seen any movies lately and didn’t have cable for a year up until a couple of months ago.  I’m more excited for the television awards.  I’m all about 30 Rock, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, Parks and Recreation, Californication, and I guess I’m still a fan of Dexter, but let’s not get into that now.

Wow. Ashton Kutcher cleaned up.
And I’m a little pissed neither Tina Fey or Amy Poehler won Actress – TV Series.  What the what?! (that’s a Tina quote).. Instead the lady from Jurassic Park..?!  Ugh.  Already disappointed.  But she gave a shout out to Lucille Ball.  Nice.

Best Mini Series or TV Movie: Downton Abbey.
Yep.. out of the loop.
Best Actress in a Mini Series or TV Movie: Kate Winslet.
Best Actor – TV Series Drama: Kelsey Grammer.
Best TV Series Drama: Homeland.  Decent show.  I watched it when it first aired.  Partly because it was on right after Dexter.  I didn’t really stick with it, but man, what an intense idea for a show.

(I missed the in between award, because I was ‘face timing’ with my mother. oops)

Best Original Song – Motion Picture: Madonna “Masterpiece” (her last golden globe win was for Evita)
Best Actor in a Mini Series or TV Movie: Idris Elba
Best Actress – Comedy or Musical Motion Picture: Michelle Williams.  I personally think it would’ve been excellent if Kristen Wiig won, but I understand..
Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Mini Series or TV Movie: Peter Dinklage.. some dude who was NOT Eric Stonestreet!  But Peter was actually really funny in 30 Rock.. AND ELF!
Best Animated Feature Film: The Adventures of Tin Tin

I just realized Californication will be on at 9:30..  So much for my awesome and totally not boring Golden Globes blog.

Best Screenplay: Midnight in Paris – Woody Allen
Best Actress in a TV Series, Mini Series or TV Movie: Jessica Lange.  Also upset this was not Sofia Vergara.
(I think I missed one)
Best Foreign Language Film: A Separation
Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama: Clare Danes.  Like I said, Homeland is a pretty gnarly show, so this win doesn’t surprise me,

I would like to say Tina Fey looks freaking amazing!  She’s not my idol or anything..

What an awesome group of men in this category!
Best Actor in a Comedy TV Series: Matt LeBlanc…. seriously?  Over David Duchovny (HANK freaking MOODY), Leonard from Big Bang AND Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock..?!  I’m floored.
Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture: Octavia Spencer

What a wonderful appearance and standing ovation or Sydney Poitier!  It looks like Morgan Freeman is going to cry, which I probably would too with such a speech and honor by Sydney.
Congratualtions, Morgan Freeman.  You’re an inspiration, goosebump-giver, funny, glowing and talented actor with such a glorious voice.  You deserve this acknowledgement.

Best Director – Motion Picture: Martin Scorsese
Best TV Series – Comedy or Musical: MODERN FAMILY!!!!!

Take it away, Ricky Gervais.  You’re so funny you’re almost sexy.
This is where I end my Golden Globes blog.

Thanks for reading my partial recap!!

good night, maci mae..

So, I survived the first week of Spring classes.
It’s going to be tougher this semester, I can already tell.  I’m taking ASL IV, of course, and another ASL course, along with a required philosophy/english/politics class where I’m required to read seven, yes seven, books.  I’m also taking a course that’s usually meant for Education majors, but my advisor thought it’d be a good experience for us interpreters, so I’m in SPED 223, which is a special education/”the exceptional learner” course.

I had 15 credit hours last semester, but that’s because I took one online course.  This semester I only have 12 credit hours, and I’m a little uneasy.  I work only between 25 to 30 hours a week, but whenever I’m not at school, at work, or rushing from one to the other, I’ve got my butt planted on my sofa, and I just don’t feel like moving.
I feel so incredibly lazy, but it’s almost like I can’t help it.  I’ve developed this unattractive habit of being so lame and lazy, and I just can’t quit it.

It’s a winter like this one has become when I don’t miss Chicagoland.  I don’t miss the insane drivers or near-extinct snow plows.  I don’t miss the holiday traffic or running into someone I know every other day.  I miss going to school downtown Chicago, though.  That is a fact.  I would absolutely love to get some photos taken of me and my fiancé downtown.  That would be really special.
Or at least one in front of the United Center… after all, it IS where we got engaged!

But if you’ve ever seen the area that the United Center is… you probably wouldn’t want to hang around there.  Especially in a wedding dress.

:)

friday the 13th (of january)

I like the sunflower idea, but this is a little crazy!

Hi all!  I’ve come to update with some pictures for your entertainment or opinions.  Note: all of these pictures will not be of things I like, maybe things I just find interesting, like the picture above.

Don't judge me. I'm not a fan of their show, or the Kardashians.. BUT I really do like her dress.

Now, onto a couple of pictures I gathered.  None of these are mine, and I would totally give credit to those who deserved it.. but I snagged these without making notes.  Sorry!!

This layout makes me feel cozy. I enjoy this setting very much; very classy.

Now, this is a picture of a real venue that I'm looking into. It's called The Narnia Estate in Lemont, IL.

I’m almost set on the idea of a classic, red/white/black/charcoal themed wedding and the ideas of old, classic movie themes (like Casablanca) have been floating around.  I don’t think I’m dead set yet, as much as I’d like to be.. let’s just say I’m waiting to get the butterflies in my stomach when the idea of something comes along.

No absolute set date yet, but we’re looking into May 2013.  I know, I know.. we better hurry because 1. it’s wedding season and 2. it’s less than two years away..

Ahhg!

First Wedding Blog

I’ve done quite a bit of wedding blog research.  Here’s a link to my go-to:

http://mydiyweddingday.com/

My DIY Wedding Day creates collages and snippets of ideas and color pallets and themes and pictures from couples actual weddings.  At one point, cruising through the chain of linked blogs that recommend one another, I found a Chicago based one.  They showed weddings downtown and beautiful photography from my favorite city.  I wish I saved that site.
But I’ve been looking a lot at photography, too, to get ideas, I guess. But look at this.  Best dudes high-five in the background?  Can you say “righteous”?

I want at least one picture like this! How funny!

I know things I like.  Little “here’s and there’s”.  But I want a set theme and feel for my wedding/reception.  After talking with my fiancé more and more about potential plans or what he thinks about ‘this’, he finally said it.  He said “the thought of this is scary”, to which I replied “the thought of WHAT, exactly?”
He corrected himself and said the thought of a big wedding and all of the pressure that comes along with it.  What have I been preaching the last few years about weddings?!  I don’t hate them for other people, but a large ceremony is just not me.  I hate people staring at me in class when I’m speaking, I already hate the thought of a room where everyone is forced to stare at me, because I’m the bride.. and they have to watch me walk down an aisle and speak?!  Pshh.  No pressure at all, right?!  I get anxiety thinking about it.  Should I wear a wide-toothed grin down the aisle?  Should I make eye contact with people?  Who then?  I like to contradict myself, though, and say “this is the song I want to walk down the aisle to”.. but hey, I’m still a girl.

I’ve got a couple ideas and a couple of venues in mind, and I’d like to warn my close friends now by saying I go through phases.  I’m going to be completely obsessed and dead set on one idea today, but tomorrow I’ll find the flaws and reconsider.

I need a place to vent and collaborate.
I’ll think I’ll do that here.

More to come soon, I promise!

good morning wordpress!

hello world!

As I have blogged before, like a few of my friends with their resolutions and promises to themselves this new year, I’d like to keep this up, explore and experience the world of blogging and see where it takes me.

As of December 2, 2011, I am an engaged young lady.
The story is actually quite excellent, but I’ll save that for another day.
…okay, or maybe tonight.

Being so, I will most likely use this blog as an idea scrapbook, sharing things I find online, sharing ideas I might have just in case maybe just one person comes along my blog and would like to share input.  I’m learning as I go about weddings, receptions, traditions, budgets and who my real friends are, but most importantly I’ve been claimed!  After five years, two months, two weeks and six days, my amazing boyfriend planned a breathtaking proposal and surprise engagement party that not only surprised me (good job!), but impressed me.

I also plan to use this blog as a travel tracker.  Okay.. so I don’t really travel.. but I’d like to update with some ‘places to go’ maybe to help a brotha or sista out if you’re around.  No big deal.

Thanks for reading, friends!

I hope you stick around.
