Okay, okay. Enough! I’ll tell the story already!
So, my fiancé had planned with his mother to get tickets from her boss for his season seats at the United Center for a blackhawks game. I came home one day while he was on the phone with her picking a day and a game, so since I “walked in”, he handed the phone to me, and because I was in school full-time, his mother asked me what day might work best.. so I picked Friday, December 2, 2011. It was a night game, and with the drive, we could stay the weekend back home up north, and it just seemed right. Plus, the hawks were playing the Islanders – easy win.
So, game day came. I left school early and we headed north.
Our seats at the game were amazing. Amazing can’t even begin to describe it. Let me just say, my fiancé’s mom’s bosses had money, and they had the BMO Harris Club seats (it’s a private club where we get a free buffet, free open bar, our own personal waitress. totally legit). It was a once in a lifetime experience for sure.

pictures can never do it justice. this was from our seats.
Before the game started, we had at the buffet! Chicken marsala, salads, pastas.. such a weird, classy buffet. The club even had a Wii.. allow me to repeat: A 46″ TV with a Wii that a father and son were playing on.. in the club.. It was so strange to me.
The game began.
I love the Chicago Blackhawks. I love all Chicago teams. I love my city.
The game was amazing; the national anthem was awesome, screaming at bogus calls, watching some talented boys kick some ass.
First intermission came and went. The lights dimmed for the second period.. about two minutes in, our waitress came to our seats with a large vase with three flowers. We were seated my fiancé, me, his mother, and his step father.
Waitress: ”Hey guys.. I was told to deliver these here….?”
Fiance: ”What? That’s weird..”
Me: (thinking) ”This club is awesome! They give you flowers!!”
Waitress: “Yeah.. I’m not sure.. I was just told to bring these here.”
Fiance: ”That’s weird… Look, they have writing on them..” He picked them out one by one. ”This one says Maci.” He hands me the flower. ”Huh. ’Will you’.”
Me: ”Uh.. what?! Shut up!”
Fiance: ”Marry me.” Hands me the third and final rose. ”Maci…” He gets down on one knee and pulls a ring from his pocket. ”Will you marry me?”
Of course I said yes. And of course I was beyond shocked.
After settling and calming and letting what just happen sink in, my fiancé and his mom vented to me, saying the waitress was supposed to wait until the second intermission so the arena lights would be on, but she came during the second period when the lights were off… blah blah blah. It didn’t go according to plan, but my god, they got me good.
There are so many details I could go into, but I won’t, because they’re important to me, and they might not be important to you.
But that’s my engagement story!
My fiancé even surprised me even more the next day with a surprise engagement party!
It was the first time our parents were in the same room together, the first time they met.. my closest friends were there, his grandparents.. siblings.. it was amazing. I was floored. He made me so proud.
Needless to say, I am happy beyond words.
After just over five years, I can finally say I’m never leaving this boy’s side. I knew there was something special about him from the first time we sat side by side. We never gave up on each other, and even the little bickering, the little fights can’t take away our spark and our desire for one another. Sorry ’bout it.
